Genadeloos snel, beklemmend én verrassend!
Je kan alleen maar onder de indruk zijn van de manier waarop Blake Crouch je in zijn verhaal weet te trekken, van de genadeloze snelheid waarmee hij zijn plot er doorjaagt, van die plot zelf en van de manier waarop hij schaamteloos je hartslag, zenuwen én brein bespeeld.
De rest zijn details.
In boek 1 van de Wayward Pines trilogie ontwaakt agent Ethan Burke volledig gedesoriënteerd en met hoofdpijn aan de oever van de enige rivier die door het afgelegen dorpje Wayward Pines stroomt. Het begint hem te dagen dat hij naar het dorp gestuurd werd om uit te vissen wat er met 2 van zijn collega's gebeurde, die er enige tijd voordien verdwenen. Burke is zelf zwaargewond, uitgeput en kan zichzelf niet identificeren, maar denkt toch vooral dat er met het dorp en zijn bewoners iets mis is.
Met dat uitgangspunt sleurt Blake Crouch je zonder dralen mee in een razend spannende trip vol actie, twijfels, mysterie en beklemming. Opnieuw wist hij me - ondanks de vele plotwendingen onderweg - op het einde flink te verrassen. Opnieuw hield hij me een boek lang aan zijn pen gekluisterd. Dat er dan links en rechts enkele momenten waren die ik een klein beetje bij de haren getrokken vond, of die ik nodeloos heftig ervaarde, vergeef ik hem graag. De kans dat we boek 2 en 3 van deze trilogie ook zullen lezen? 100% me dunkt.
